I love books but for quite a few years I stopped reading. I just haven’t taken the time to relax. I hadn’t been to the library in well over 5 years. I hadn’t kept up with my favorite book series. I was way behind in the JD Robb in death series.
That turned out to be a good thing because when I started reading again I had a bunch of my favs to catch up on. And catch up I did. One weekend hubby and the kids were both away and I read for 2 days straight. My back was killing me by Monday from laying in bed all weekend lol It felt great to dig into good books again.
When I got a new library card, I figured out that you can borrow ebooks from the library! I bought hubby a Kindle Fire for Christmas a while back. Electronics tend to be easier if I figure some of the things out for him. Borrowing from the library was one big one that turned out to be pretty easy.
Then he started using it more. He was taking it to work so he could read his books if he got a chance to unwind at night. Bummer, those are the days I really want to read at night. I’d quickly gotten addicted to the ease of the kindle.
I happened to mention that I needed to get my own e-reader and my Mom remembered. She bought me the Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas a year ago. I love it! I don’t need all the extras that the Fire does. I just want it to load books and do that as easily as possible.
I never thought I’d get into the ebooks. I love paper books. I grew up reading many books a week and it helped me through quite a few years. It’s still weird to have this mini-computer in my hand and to touch the screen to change the page. But, I’m getting used to it. How can you not when it’s possible to instantly download a new book at all hours of the night.
I still collect my fav books as hardcopies. I can’t help it, just have to have that physical copy. But if I’m using reading to chill out before going to sleep, reading real books poses a big problem for me.
I don’t have a nightstand light. When I’m done reading I have to get up and turn the light off. This tends to wake me back up a bit. If you battle any little bit of insomnia then you know what I’m talking about. Using my kindle took that problem away. I can turn the light down to dim for reading. When I’m done reading, I just close it and set it aside. No getting up. Problem 100% solved.
Are you a reader? Were you a reader and just need to get back into the habit? I find it much easier to take time for myself and relax when I can lose myself in a good book.
