With day 5 & 6 I can report that I’m having success. I’m down 4 pounds. That’s without much working out. Now to just get both the diet and exercise kicking butt together!
Low Energy Levels
Before the diet I was at low energy levels. Super low. It’s why I decided I couldn’t live like this any longer. I’d put weight on and my IBS was/is messing up my body. I was hoping to blame it on thyroid stuff going on, but specialist says no. Even with the tiny nodes and cyst, my counts were still “ok”. I just shrug my shoulders and say whatever to that. Are my numbers normal for me or normal for what they consider average? We know the answer to that one.
It’s all on me now. Which it was to begin with, I was just looking for a quick fix like the rest of America.
If it wasn’t for the head cold, my energy levels would be up. In fact they are getting much better as I’m doing well holding this cold off from getting worse. I do feel better most days. I’m not weighed down with a gut of stone for one thing. Sticking to the diet is a little tricky, but doable.
Low FODMAPS Diet
Thankfully this FODMAPS diet is close to how we’ve been eating. Even after just 6 days, I can tell that certain odd foods do cause issues. Hubby isn’t used to cooking for this diet yet and put onions in the tuna salad on day 5. I LOVE onions. Who would have thought that something so universal could be the culprit of feeling a little off? Yeah, staying away from those as much as possible now. Boo food issues. I hope after I get my gut in check, I can add them back in.
I know this would have been more difficult if I wasn’t already dairy free. Dairy was the first thing to be cut out, even before I knew I had IBS. That’s one of the things that got me into the doctors first. The pain was so bad that at one time I nearly went to the hospital. I was very happy to finally associate that it was when I ate dairy that it caused the pain.
Overall in the last 6 days my working out hasn’t been awesome. But in these last 2 days? SWEAT ON! I’ve been doing great. Big chest and back workout at home on day 5 and day 6 I hit the gym and did 30 hard minutes. Plus I’ve started doing extra credit with a couple of the gals at class. They stay after class with me and do abs and a few other exercises. They are more advanced than some of the other seniors and it’s great for them to get the extra workout too. Love that they are willing to hang with me and push it.
Going through this first week hasn’t been horribly rough. Head cold kept me from feeling hungry. Having the house stocked with fruits and vegetables made it easy to come up with good meals. Now I just need to set myself up for more success in the second week.
