A wrestling Mom’s tale

It’s the day before Thanksgiving and all through the house,

Not a creature was pushing to be a tiny mouse.

Wrestling weigh ins causing a long food time gap,

The dilemma to enjoy dinner or just take a nap.

One child trying to gain, another working to lose,

Then me in the middle of the food dilemma blues.

I remember the reason we stopped visiting family on this day,

It’s too difficult to say no to the stuffing, taters and buffet.

A long line of wrestlers we do come from,

But they love to heckle from being under prior thumb.

To all the wrestling moms, I bid you adieu,

I’ll see you at state where you can kiss my butt too.

Yeah, I’m poetic like that. I started out all nice and ready to post this on my “mommy” blog. But then I couldn’t help myself. My personality came out so it immediately got copied to my “momma” blog. Yes, this is a Val Selby original so don’t steal it cause it’s obvious.

A zillion years ago I use to write poems all the time. My parents have a ton of them. See how stupid my brain works?

I believe I was still MIA around here during last wrestling season. This is when my daughter decided to wrestle as a sophomore and found a true sport passion. It’s incredible to watch, especially since I’m a wrestling junky to begin with. I don’t even have to know anyone on the mat and I’m yelling and screaming lol If she had to wait to find her sport, I’m so very thankful she picked one that rocks!

So you’ll be hearing more about wrestling. My son also decided to join in at the middle school this year. I’m pretty sure it was to show up his sister, but hey, competition is good. Plus, the conversations in the car after practice bring literal tears to my eyes. They try to one up each other about mat work, but they also explain and learn from each other. It’s just plain awesome.

We done did right somewhere. (sniff, sniff) Now go kill em. Oops, my redneck showed

No one can disagree about the amazing things Al Davis brought to the world of football. Recent years have been rough for those of us in the Raider Nation but the fundamentals of the team and the attitude of the players has always stayed the same. Hit hard with no apology and runover anyone in your way.

I’ve loved reading the articles going over everything Mr. Davis accomplished.

Let me just recap some of my favs!

• He’s always been coach (for good or bad), GM, was AFL commissioner and of course owner
• In the 29 years he’s been owner, we have 3 superbowl trophies. There are only 8 teams to have 3 or more trophies out of the current 32 teams. No the bronco’s aren’t one of those 8
• He hired the first black coach, first latino coach and the first female CEO
• Madden, Gruden, Shanahan, need I say anything else?

His loyalty knew no bounds. To be a Raider was to be a Raider for life. This loyalty goes all the way down to the fans. While we’ve gone through many a rough season, we’ve always been loyal to our Raiders.

It’s the end of an era for the NFL and the Raiders franchise. We’ll see where this new beginning takes our Raider Nation. But where ever it does go it won’t change the fact that Al Davis created the mentality and high octane playing that mean you are a Raider.

RIP Al Davis and comfort to your family in this time of mourning. Thank you for creating the team that I know and love.

I’ve yet to buy myself a jersey. It’s on the list, but something always comes up that I really shouldn’t spend the money. But I did some research and foung Throw Back Guy to order from for a much better price. I have 3 options for an Urlacher jersey and that kicks butt. Plus they are a lot less expensive than most places I have found.

I swear this is the year of the jersey. I will work hard at getting a jersey before November. I’ll tell my kids so they’ll remind me.

Actually it’s turned out really good.  They have complete run of the house and they all get along really well.  Hubby and I both played guitar hero on the easiest level, I wanted the dummy level because I’m so good at video games (roflmao) but they said this was the lowest level possible.  I did 50% so I think I rock no matter how much they boo’d me!  I beat hubby so that’s all that matters.

Tomorrow we are going to have two more boys show up and then brownie ice cream cake.  Crap, better go finish the damn thing so they can eat it.  Then it’s off to play lasor tag.  I’m hoping we will make it back before kick off, but we’ll see.  We’re eating the cake and opening presents before we leave so we don’t have to do it up there.  lol  Figured then we can play the last game and head home quick.  Already need to stop by my parents and drop off my nephew on the way home.  It’s gonna be close.  I better not miss any of the good commercials!

They had so much fun. Of course she emailed me pictures of them all cowgirled up. And not only that, but they made a ton of friends while they were there. She even flew most of the way across the country to spend New Year’s with a group of them. Ahh, the single life huh? lol Granted, not worth becoming single for, but I can live through her. lol She texted me from their huge dairy farm and said they were going to put on a team roping show on New Year’s day for everyone. New Year’s and cowboys, not a bad hit. lol

So it’s that time of year already. Wrangler National Finals Rodeo tickets are on sale and I so want to go. We really want to go to Vegas, but we aren’t into gambling. This would be the best reason to go. How much cooler it would be to watch it live instead of on tv. I don’t want to watch on tv again and look for my friend in the audience. And here about all the fun they had dancing until 7am every morning. lol

Last year we caught the final day of the event on tv. Thankfully, because it was so good. Makes you cringe and sit on the edge of your seat. We so much rather be there.

I’ve decided that we are having a crab fest for the event. I haven’t decided who all will be invited to come over, but I do know they will be required to bring bottles of crown with them . The superbowl is usually late now and I don’t want everyone here all evening. lol Hubby will have to go to work for the second day on that Monday and the kids will have school in the morning.

Did I mention that Urlacher is going to the SUPERBOWL BABY! Now that’s hot!!! Can’t wait to see him with a ring on.
